Set up a billing plan
Goal
Put a way of paying on the shelf — £45 a month for twelve months, renewing — so the front desk can start customers on it, and name it on a membership type so a membership is paid on it by default.
Prerequisites
- You hold Sports & Leisure — centre manager.
- Sports & Leisure is imported (the psl-sports-leisure solution).
- An administrator has set psl_payment_provider under Environment Variables to your payment provider's adapter.
Steps
- Open Sports & Leisure → Configuration → Billing plans and select New.
- Fill in the Billing plan section: a Name, the Amount per payment and the Currency.
- Fill in the Term:
- Paid — once, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.
- Payments a term — how many payments make a term. Twelve monthly payments is a year.
- Renews automatically — whether a new term starts when this one ends.
- Paid by — card or direct debit.
- Under Failed payments, set the Attempts at a payment and the Days between attempts. Left empty they are three attempts, three days apart.
- Optionally set Sold from and Sold until to put the plan on sale for a while only.
- Save.
- To pay a membership type on this plan, open the type under Membership types and pick the plan in Billing plan.
What happens behind the scenes
A plan paid once is always one payment and never renews — the page sets that for you.
Payments are counted from the day a subscription starts, by calendar month, not by thirty days. A subscription that starts on 31 January pays on 28 February (29 in a leap year), then on 31 March again.
Changing a plan's amount does not change what anyone already pays: a subscription keeps the price it was started at until it renews, when the new term is at the plan's price then. Making a plan inactive stops it being sold, and a subscription on it then does not renew — it completes at the end of its term.
Troubleshooting
- "Say how many payments a term has." — fill in Payments a term; twelve for a year paid monthly.
- "A plan is sold until a day after it is sold from." — swap Sold from and Sold until.
