Switch between environments

Goal​

Change which environment the Platform Shell is working in, so the apps you open act on that environment's data.

Prerequisites​

  • You are signed in to the Platform Shell.
  • You have access to more than one environment. If you have access to only one, the environment is fixed and there is nothing to switch.

Steps​

  1. Find the Environment picker in the top bar of the Platform Shell.
  2. Open the picker and select the environment you want to work in.
  3. The Shell immediately switches to that environment. Any app you open now acts on the selected environment's data.

What happens behind the scenes​

Each environment keeps its own isolated data. When you switch environments, the Platform Shell re-points every app you open at the selected environment, so a record you see in one environment does not appear in another. The Platform Shell remembers your choice, so you return to the same environment the next time you open the Shell.

Troubleshooting​

  • The environment picker shows "No active environments." — your account has no environment that is ready to use. Ask a platform administrator to create one or give you access.
  • An environment you expect is missing from the picker — the environment may still be provisioning, or you may not have access to it. Only ready environments you can access appear in the picker.
  • Sign in to the platform.
  • Open an app.
