Delete a Table
Goal
Remove a table you created from an environment — deleting its definition and its data — and understand why the platform sometimes blocks the delete.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in with a maker (or platform administrator) role.
- You know the environment and solution the table lives in.
- The table was created in this environment (not brought in by a managed solution — see "Troubleshooting").
Steps
- In the left sidebar, choose the environment and solution you are working in.
- Open Tables from the sidebar navigation.
- Select the table's row (a single selection).
- Choose Delete from environment.
- The platform first checks whether anything else depends on the table:
- If nothing does, a confirmation appears explaining that this removes the table from the environment entirely — from Main and every solution — along with its data, and that the action cannot be undone. Choose the confirming action to delete it.
- If something does depend on it, the dialog instead lists the blocking components (for example, a lookup field on another table that points at this one, or an app that opens on it). Nothing is deleted. Remove or repoint those dependents first, then try again.
What happens behind the scenes
"Delete from environment" destroys the table's own (unmanaged) definition. Because the table was created in this environment, removing it takes it out of the environment entirely — out of Main and out of every solution that listed it — and drops its data table. The platform refuses the delete while another component still references the table, so a delete never leaves a dangling reference behind.
Removing a table from a single solution's contents (without deleting it from the environment) is a different, non-destructive action available inside a non-default authoring solution — it removes only the table's membership in that solution and destroys nothing.
Troubleshooting
- The delete lists blocking components. Another component depends on the table. Remove the listed lookup field / app / other dependent first, then delete the table.
- "… comes from a managed solution and cannot be deleted directly." The table was brought in by an installed managed solution, so it has no removable definition of its own. To remove it, uninstall the owning managed solution instead.
