Open a Custom React App
Goal
Open a Custom React App that has been registered in an environment, from the Platform Shell's home page.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in to the Platform Shell.
- You have access to the environment the Custom React App is installed in.
- The Custom React App has been registered in that environment (see Register a Custom React App).
Steps
- In the Platform Shell, use the environment switcher to select the environment the Custom React App is installed in.
- Go to the Shell's home page. The Custom React App appears alongside the built-in Model-Driven Apps, using the display name it was registered with.
- Select the Custom React App. The Shell loads it and it opens in place.
What happens behind the scenes
Before loading the app, the Platform Shell requests a narrow, short-lived access token scoped to just that app and environment, then loads the app's remote code and renders it directly — the app shares the Shell's single React runtime rather than running in an isolated frame. The app reaches platform data and logging only through the Runtime SDK the Shell provides, so it always acts with the permissions of the signed-in user in the current environment. An app whose code is served from an origin the environment does not allow-list is refused before it loads.
Troubleshooting
- The app is not listed on the home page. — confirm you are in the environment the app was registered in; a Custom React App installed in one environment does not appear in another until its solution is imported there.
- "This app's code is served from a blocked origin." — the app's remoteEntry URL is not on the environment's allow-list. An administrator must add the origin before the Shell will load it.
