Create a Publisher
Goal
Create a publisher so its prefix can namespace the components you build, keeping them from colliding with components from other publishers.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in to the Admin Control Center as a platform administrator.
Steps
- Open the Publishers page from the top navigation.
- Enter a publisher name.
- Enter a prefix — a short, lower-case token (2–8 letters/digits, starting
with a letter), for example
par. - Select Add publisher.
- The publisher appears in the table, showing its prefix as
par_.
Rename a publisher
Select the publisher (or click its row) and choose Edit. Only the display name can change — and only for a publisher you created.
- The prefix cannot change. It is part of the logical name of every component this
publisher has ever created (
par_invoice), and those names are what forms, views, filters, plugin steps, and solution layers all refer to. Changing it would rename nothing and orphan everything. - The option value base cannot change either. Options already numbered from it are stored as numbers on real records, so moving the range would leave those numbers pointing outside it.
Both are shown in the Edit panel, greyed out, with that reason beside them.
Two publishers cannot be renamed at all, and offer no Edit:
- Your tenant's default publisher, the one that owns the default solution. Its name is a platform convention, and the platform finds it by its prefix — a rename would leave the code working while the screen said something else.
- A publisher created by a solution import. That one stands for the organisation whose managed solution arrived; renaming it here would make the same vendor read differently in each environment, and the next import would disagree with the screen.
What happens behind the scenes
The prefix is reserved within your tenant. Every component you later add to a
solution owned by this publisher must have a logical name that starts with the
prefix (for example par_invoice), which is how components from different
publishers stay distinct when combined in one environment.
Troubleshooting
- "This publisher belongs to the platform … so its name cannot be changed here." — it is your tenant's default publisher or one a solution import created. See Rename a publisher above for why neither is yours to rename.
- "Prefix … must be 2–8 lower-case letters/digits starting with a letter." — fix the prefix to match that shape (no capitals, no underscores, not too short or long).
- "A publisher with prefix … already exists." — that prefix is taken in your tenant. Choose a different one.
